Child Nutrition Department: Nutrition Education
The CCISD Child Nutrition Department believes that school breakfast and lunch play a vital role in each student's day. Eating nutritional meals makes better students. We encourage you and your student to participate in our food service program.
Fun and learning with Clear Creek ISD Child Nutrition Services
Clear Creek ISD Child Nutrition Services have a number of programs educators can use to help introduce healthy eating and a fit lifestyle to students in a fun and engaging way. Teachers and administrators are able to schedule activities and events with their Power-Up Port cafeteria.
Safety and Sanitation Academy
This program provides students with an opportunity to learn how their Power-Up Port kitchen operates. The kitchen tour lasts 30-40 minutes and integrates the CATCH program throughout the tour. The students are also taught many safety and sanitation precautions in the kitchen. Each student will receive a plastic apron, hairnet, gloves, and completion certificate.
At the secondary level, classes can schedule to work "behind the scenes" in their school's Power-Up Port kitchen. Students work by cooking, packaging, weighing servings, checking temperatures of foods, etc. During the serving times, students can replenish food on the line and help wash dishes. This is a great opportunity for classes such as the Personal and Family Development course to "extend the classroom."
Power-Up Cooking Project
CATCH and the Child Nutrition Department pair up to conduct a hands-on, healthy snack project in your classroom or in the Power-Up Port Cafeteria. The students learn aspects of the CATCH program, how to make a fun, healthy snack and they get to enjoy eating it!
Student Advisory Committee Meetings
Student communication is always a top priority for the Child Nutrition Department. Understanding the wants and needs of our students is the key to providing for our customers. Each year we conduct Student Advisory Committee (S.A.C.), Meetings. These meetings are another way we show that we care about what the students want and we are doing everything we can do to meet their needs. The SAC meetings are held periodically at both the elementary and secondary level, although the two vary in content.
Power-Up Promotions
The Child Nutrition Department hosts many promotions at the elementary and secondary levels. These special events may coincide with a sport, a season, or a national awareness program. These promotions are designed to enhance students' experiences in the cafeteria and to make their time in the cafeteria fun. Promotions are advertised by posters, fliers and PA announcements.
CATCH the Wave...Live a Healthy Lifestyle!
As a district, CCISD participates in the state wide Coordinated Approach to Children's Health, CATCH, program for teaching healthy living to our students. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you, your students and the community.
CATCH is a TEA approved Coordinated School Health Program designed to promote physical activity, healthy food choice, and prevent tobacco use in all students. By teaching children that eating healthy and being physically active every day can be FUN, the CATCH program has proven that establishing healthy habits in childhood can promote behavior change that carry into adulthood. The CATCH program is a process which brings a school community together to teach children to be healthy for a lifetime. With the help of the Child Nutrition Department and the schools faculty and parents we have a common goal to have healthy children.
The CATCH program considers school cafeterias an extension of the classroom. Breakfast and lunch become opportunities for children to learn, practice and adopt healthy eating habits. The CATCH school cafeteria is literally a hands-on learning environment. CATCH classroom and physical education lessons come to life as students experience first hand the concepts of GO, SLOW and WHOA foods.

Customer Service
The Child Nutrition Department also plays a role in parent involvement events. Striving to meet our customers needs, we are there along with the schools faculty, PTA and administration to serve and prepare Thanksgiving meals and Winter Holiday meals at participating elementary campuses.
There are other events that the Child Nutrition Department pairs with the Parent Teacher Association. There are "Donuts for Dad" events, "Grandparents Day" luncheons, and "Donuts for Parents" just to name a few. The Child Nutrition Department will also provide the announcement posters for any event.
The Child Nutrition Department also participates in health booths. For these booths, we offer nutritional information, information on the CATCH program and any other support requested.
