WAVE Gifted & Talented Magnet (Grades 6-8)

Webster Academy Visions in Education is Clear Creek ISD's gifted and talented magnet school for grades 6 - 8. WAVE offers inter-disciplinary, differentiated academic classes tied to universal themes, real world issues, and state-mandated TEKS.
  
Academics, mini courses, independent study, WAVE Basics class, acceleration in mathematics, differentiated, interdisciplinary instruction in language arts, science and social studies are offered by highly trained teachers and staff in a learning community that focuses on the nature and needs of adolescent gifted learners. 
   
At WAVE, the students have the opportunity to interact with their intellectual peers from across the district and participate in award-winning fine arts, athletics and student activities. Since all WAVE students must take a compacted language arts courses, applicants must be identified as gifted by Clear Creek ISD and qualify via a Language Arts Matrix.


In 1996, Clear Creek Independent School District established an intermediate gifted and talented magnet at Webster Intermediate School, known as Webster Academy – Visions in Education (WAVE). The WAVE magnet is now housed at Westbrook Intermediate School.    
  
This GT magnet brings together gifted and talented students from across the District for the opportunity to interact with their intellectual peers and to participate in a learning environment designed to facilitate and expand their opportunities and experiences.   
  
WAVE also helps students to understand themselves and assists them in the development of social relationships. Below are some of the unique attributes of WAVE:

  • Differentiated, inter-disciplinary, challenging academic classes
  • Curriculum tied to universal themes and real-world issues
  • Advanced-level, real-world products and activities
  • Language arts/reading integrated into one literature-based course
  • Acceleration in mathematics as needed
  • Advanced technology integrated throughout course work
  • Sixth Grade WAVE Basics Class for cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and leadership development
  • WAVE mini-course opportunities based on the research of Joseph Renzulli
  • Independent study
  • Awareness of the social and emotional needs of gifted students
  • Highly trained staff - have obtained or are pursuing university GT endorsement and/or State GT Exam
  • Certification as a minimum 

Focusing on student strengths and the nature and needs of the GT population, WAVE provides the nurturing environment necessary for the development of creative, confident leaders.   
   
Eligibility and Enrollment:

Clear Creek Independent School District enrolled and identified gifted and talented students have an opportunity to tour WAVE early in the second semester of their 5th grade year. A parent information meeting at the school is held a few days later. Parent tours of the classes are also scheduled around that time. Interim registration materials are distributed at the parent meeting or may be picked up at the WAVE office at Westbrook Intermediate.

  • Clear Creek ISD enrolled, identified, actively participating Gifted and Talented student
  • WAVE Language Arts Compaction Matrix
