The State of Texas is facing a major educational challenge — a growing shortage of qualified teachers. Whether you are a recent college graduate, a mid-career changer, a teacher from another state/country, or someone who does not yet have a college degree, the information below outlines how to become a teacher in Texas.

In general, there are five basic requirements for someone new to the field of education to become a certified teacher. These requirements are not necessarily completed in sequence and it is recommended that you discuss your plans to become a teacher with an Educator Preparation Program early in the process. Out of State Certified Educators
To start the Texas certification process, you need to apply for a "Review of Credentials" through SBEC. They will review your information and tell you which TExES exams to take. They will also give you a code which will be necessary to register for the exams. You can register and download the study guides at www.texas.ets.org.
