Clear Creek Independent School District

Office of Public Information: Rumor Watch

The Clear Creek Independent School District is committed to open and honest communication. It's understandable that at a large and dynamic institution there are questions and concerns, and some of these give rise to supposition. It's crucial, though, that we each have access to good, reliable information.

Rumors are no laughing matter. They can be corrosive, they can make people anxious, instill fear and dread. They damage morale, waste time and can make us less productive. This feature is designed to address the rumors you hear making their way around the halls and water coolers of our district. Have you heard a good one? Send it to us, and we'll track down the truth — good or bad — and post it here. For more news and information visit the Communications/Office of Public Information Site.

Do you have a rumor you want to report? Email us at information@ccisd.net to tell us about it.

Rumor:
The land next to Gilmore Elementary is said to house a "future CCISD Intermediate School". I heard recently that at a board meeting it was said that this might not happen due to the amount of land. Please clarify this. Many community members purchased their homes with the promise of both an elementary and intermediate onsite in the neighborhood.

Truth:
There is sufficient land at the Gilmore site to construct an Intermediate campus. The construction of the campus will depend on the demographics for the area.

Rumor:
Several students are saying that they are considering swapping the hours of the high school and the middle school. Is this true?

Truth:
No, this is a rumor.

Rumor:
Is it true that all high schools will go to a seven period day? Why did the District get rid of the block?

Truth:
A final decision has been made regarding high school scheduling. During the Board of Trustees workshop on Monday, February 11th, Dr. Greg Smith, Superintendent of Schools, presented and the Board unanimously approved a recommendation to keep the current high school schedules for one more school year and then transition to a 7 period day for all comprehensive high schools in 2009 – 2010. A 7 period day allows every student to see his or her teacher everyday, fewer opportunities for release time in the senior year for non-instructional periods, and more opportunities to prepare for college and CATE fields of interest. It will also create additional space on campuses because of the need for fewer classrooms. Clear Creek ISD’s high schools were designed for a 7 period day. The 7 period day may also free up some resources that could be used to fund competitive salary increases for teachers. Additionally, the District’s Long Range Staffing Plan projects that we will need approximately $50 million over the next five years to meet our staffing needs based on student growth. This move is inline with other 4A and 5A high schools in Texas and it is certainly not a reflection of favoring one CCISD high school schedule over another.

Rumor:
Will the attendance zones for the high schools be redrawn since there is a new high school being constructed?

Truth:
A committee will be formed in the fall of 2009 to review the attendance boundaries for the 7th high school.
