CCISD EARNS HIGHEST FINANCE HONORS
League City – The Clear Creek Independent School District was recently awarded numerous awards honoring the work of CCISD’s Finance Department. The District received a Superior Achievement from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), an honor received every year since 2002.
CCISD was also awarded a “Gold Circle Award” from the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program. The program recognizes local governments across Texas that meet a high standard for financial transparency online by opening their books to the public, providing clear, consistent pictures of spending, and sharing information in a user-friendly format that lets taxpayers easily locate detailed information.
The “Gold Circle Award” is the highest Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle honor. The honor highlights Clear Creek ISD as setting the bar with their transparency efforts by clearly reporting budget, financial reports, and check registers. “Clear Creek ISD earned a Gold Leadership Circle Award by scoring 19 of 20 possible points on our ratings criteria,” explained Michelle Luera Regional Representative for the state comptroller’s office.” CCISD has earned a “Gold Circle Award” every year since the Comptroller of Public Accounts launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program in December 2009.
“We’ve trimmed $12 million dollars from our budget in the last two years, but managed to avoid layoffs,” said Superintendent Greg Smith, “A lot of the credit goes to Deputy Superintendent of Business and Support Services Paul McLarty and our Director of Finance, Jeff Kohlenberg. Their work is critical to our mission to provide the best education we can to all students while keeping administrative costs as low as possible.”
The Finance Department of CCISD has also been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. “This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting,” said Director Stephen J. Gautheir, “It represents a significant achievement by Clear Creek ISD.”
The District was also awarded the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Meritorious Budget Award for achieving the highest standards of school budgeting. In addition to the Gold Circle award and 2 budget awards, the CCISD Finance team also received ASBO’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting and GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the sixth year in a row.
