CCISD Announces Changes in Science Fair
League City, Texas- It has been 50 years since the Clear Creek Independent School District held its first science fair competition. Today it is still one of those hallmark events where students, teachers, parents and community members come together to work on science projects. The long-held tradition will continue in the district with some adjustments. “The line had been blurred between our science curriculum and science fair competition. The changes we announced this week will clarify and support both efforts,” said Greg Smith, Superintendent of Schools. “The goal is to maintain our rigor in science while providing students every opportunity to pursue projects that inspire them.”
Based on input from parents over the last several years and teacher survey results, the District will no longer require students to participate in Science Fair. Teams similar to robotics will be formed at the campus level to support participation in Science Fair. Additionally, district curriculum revisions will provide additional emphasis on experimental design in the classroom and Pre-AP/AP science curriculum will be adjusted to better suit the College Board’s philosophy of inspiring deep thinking among students. Students will still need to demonstrate, through teacher-led projects and assignments, mastery of experimental design.
