STAAR END OF COURSE EXAMS WON’T AFFECT FINAL GRADES
2011-2012 School Year Only
League City -- The week of February 20, 2012 the Commissioner of Education announced the State would waive the requirement to have the STAAR End-of-Course Exam count towards 15% of a student’s final grade for this school year. During the February 27, 2012 school board meeting, Trustees officially approved the suspension of the 15% rule in CCISD for the 2011-2012 school year.
“However, we must be mindful that a student’s performance on the End-of-Course Exam still counts toward his ability to graduate high school,” explained Superintendent of Schools Greg Smith. “Students must pass the exam and score an unknown level in order to graduate.” Unlike TAKS, the scores from 12 End-of-Course exams at the high school level accumulate over four years. The total points earned on those tests will determine whether a student meets Texas graduation requirements as set forth under the minimum, recommended or distinguished plans.
