Clear Lake High School: Message from the Principal

 September 21, 2009

 Dear Falcon Family,

Congratulations to the entire Clear Lake Community for supporting the high school students and playing a vital role in achieving an Exemplary rating. Clear Lake High School is the largest Exemplary high school in The State of Texas! This achievement reflects our belief that every student deserves the opportunity to receive a world class education.

Open House at Clear Lake High School is Monday, October 5th. Classroom visitation begins at 6:30 PM, while student clubs and organizations advertize in the MB Commons beginning at 6:00 PM. We invite you to join us for an evening of meeting the staff and gaining an overview of each course.

Students involved in UIL activities should note that October 2nd is the end of the first six weeks of school which will initiate the eligibility check for participation. October 9th at 2:30 PM is the date students will lose or retain eligibility based on grades. Any student enrolled in an approved advanced course, who fails with a grade of 60 – 69, can take advantage of a one-time waiver to retain eligibility. More information on this waiver can be found on e4. I also encourage you to visit the UIL website and review the UIL Side By Side, which outlines the eligibility rules for students participating in extracurricular activities.

Parent Self Serve is coming soon for parents to view their student’s school information in real time. K12 Planet is gone and we are implementing Parent Self Serve to better assist you in knowing how your student is performing while at school. Watch for more information to come in the near future.

Late Arrival Day (LAD) is scheduled to provide staff members time to collaborate to better serve our students. LAD for the fall are scheduled for October 15th, November 12th, and December 10th. Students report for first period by 9:40 AM on each of these days. Also, December 18th begins the winter break and Clear Lake High School will release students at 11:30 AM that day. Buses will run at 11:38 AM.

Finally, exams for the first semester will be administered January 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. As you plan, be sure these days are set aside for that purpose. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your most precious possession and let me know if there is anything we can do to help as the year progresses.

Sincerely,

Christopher A. Moran, Ed.D.
