Information for the PTA Newsletter: September 2009
Learning Reinforced At Home
Our school now has access to a great resource for preparing students for the state standardized tests (TAKS). We are excited about the potential benefits this program can bring to our students, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. The students enrolled in the program are registered at no cost to you, into a web-based program called Study Island, which is accessible to students from home or school. If you have internet access, fifteen to twenty minutes a day with this program will really help your child experience success on the state assessments administered at their particular grade level. Presently, all students that are not enrolled in a PreAp course, have been registered for the Language Arts portion of Study Island. Seventh grade students will also be able to access web-based programming in the area of writing to reinforce skills needed to master the writing TAKS test on March 3, 2010.
Additionally, based on prior TAKS results, a limited number of students with less developed math, science or social studies skills will have an opportunity to reinforce their concept mastery in those areas using Study Island. By the beginning of October, parents of students enrolled in Study Island will receive a letter in the mail outlining the steps necessary to begin using this great resource available through March 2010!
Please contact Ms. Mary Kay T. Carlile, Assistant Principal for any additional information.
