Greetings and Happy 2010 Voyager Families!
I am so excited to begin a new calendar year with the Voyagers.
I wanted to start by sharing some exciting news with you about a recent Falcon Pass Elementary accomplishment. FPE was included in a distinguished group of Texas schools on the Texas Business & Education Coalition (TBEC) 2009 Honor Roll. Of the more than 8,000 Texas public schools less than 4% are honored with this award for demonstrating three years of consistent, high performance in all subject areas. TBEC Honor Roll schools have the highest percentages of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard –commended- in every subject area. Please join me in congratulating the efforts of our teachers and students for earning a place on the 2009 TBEC Honor Roll! Way to go Voyagers!
Thank you to everyone who shared a piece of their heritage with our students during the first FPE Diversity Fair. It was a huge success and exposed our students to a wide variety of cultures, food, dress and music. We are fortunate that with the diversity of families at Falcon Pass, we can celebrate our differences and at the same time recognize our similarities. Mrs. Johnson, our school counselor, did a fantastic job of organizing this fun learning opportunity.
January brings many important events for your children. Grade level spelling bees will continue, science fair projects are due, our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will take their second round of benchmarks to assess their learning growth, and our school-wide Pasta for Pennies drive begins just to name a few! Please check the calendar so events don’t sneak up on you or catch you off guard. It’s going to be a busy and productive month.
The start of a new year is a time to take inventory, reflect on the previous year and make plans for the year to come. Take time to talk to you child about what they would like to accomplish this year and let us know how we can work together to help them attain their goals. Happy New Year….it’s going to be a good one!
