The purpose and mission of Ross Elementary is to provide all students with an educational program which will allow them to achieve their full potentials academically, socially, and physically in order to be responsible citizens and contributing members of society.
Ross Elementary first opened its doors to students on December 6, 1965. At that time it was called Newport Elementary. There were 392 students and 20 teachers on opening day, and the principal was Jack Warner. At the time of opening, the School Board set district boundaries at the railroad tracks. Everyone living on the east side of the tracks attended League City Elementary, and everyone living on the west side of the tracks attended Newport Elementary. The school’s name was changed on May 19, 1969, when the Clear Creek Independent School District officially dedicated the school to the memory of longtime League City businessman, civic leader, and former School District President James Haydn Ross. In 1979, the Ross mascot became the Roadrunner, and in 1980, Hall Elementary School was built to relieve overcrowding at Ross. In 1994, an addition was made to the existing building, including a new library, Art Lab, Science Lab, and twelve additional classrooms. In 2001, Bauerschlag Elementary was opened to relieve overcrowding from both Ross and Hall Elementary.
Nestled in the small, rapidly growing community of League City, Ross Elementary reflects the pride and lifestyles of those wishing to provide their families the closeness of a small town and all the amenities of a larger city. With our close proximity to NASA Johnson Space Center and Galveston Island, residents have both educational and fun activities within a few minutes travel time. Students at Ross enjoy the benefit of wide community involvement. Students can also count on tremendous parental involvement at Ross Elementary School. We have a great team of parents who are always willing to volunteer to help make special events even more special.
