Clear Creek Independent School District

Message from the Principal

Welcome Whitcomb Families!

My name is Gail Boyes and I am honored to be the new principal of Whitcomb Elementary.  I come to you as a proud graduate of Clear Creek ISD.  I attended Clear Lake City Elementary, Clear Lake Intermediate and Clear Lake High School.  I can honestly thank my 4th grade teacher for instilling in me the love of learning.  She sparked my passion for education which continues to grow today. I have served as the Assistant Principal at Falcon Pass Elementary (CCISD) as well as Stuchbery Elementary located in Pasadena ISD.  My teaching experiences have included special education K-5, dyslexia/reading specialist, and first grade.  I absolutely love children and am dedicated to educating the 21st century learner.

A big congratulations goes out to Whitcomb’s dedicated teachers and staff for becoming a TEA Exemplary school for the 2008-09 school year.  What an accomplishment for both students and teachers! Our goal is to continue on this path of excellence by putting kids first.

Some of you may have noticed that our mascot has been changed back to the original campus mascot, the giraffe. At first, I was unsure of this decision but looking back on the history of our school, I have discovered the importance of such a mascot. On January 27, 1977, the Curator of Education with the Houston Zoological Gardens working for Fred Hofheinz, Mayor of Houston, wrote:

“In picking a giraffe to represent you, you have shown much intelligence and discernment. The giraffe is a noble animal. With feet planted firmly on the ground, he reaches for the stars with his head. From his elevated position he has wider horizons than his fellow creatures. May you be inspired and stimulated by his lofty example to reach ever higher and see ever further. I hereby officially bestow upon your new mascot the name of WHITNEY.”

When you walk into our building you will see Whitney, standing tall and proud, a reminder to all, that we will be aiming high and reaching for the stars.

Everyone is welcomed at Whitcomb and I look forward to a great school year ahead!
