Safety Improvements Planned for CCISD Elementary Schools

League City, TX – A top priority in the Clear Creek Independent School District is to provide students and staff with a safe and effective learning environment. With that in mind, CCISD hired a third-party safety company to audit elementary schools immediately following the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary.

The year-long audit and campus-based assessments were presented to the Board of Trustees during the February general meeting. The Board approved $1.8 million in capital improvements to further enhance the physical security inside and around elementary schools. Such improvements include fencing, additional card access points, and a new controlled access system for the front office. Several school safety projects were already included in the 2013 CCISD Bond and are not part of the $1.8 million approved by the school board.

“We want to set the standard of excellence in the area of safety,” said Dr. Greg Smith, CCISD Superintendent. “The physical security enhancements to our school buildings may create a brief inconvenience on the part of parents, but I am certain they will understand. We will work to communicate those changes early and often.” The district’s School Safety division will also enhance training for staff, students and parents.

Construction at the 26 elementary schools in CCISD is expected to begin in June, with completion scheduled for May 2015.
