League City, TX – Clear Springs High School and Clear Falls High School are honored to have their musicals nominated in the Tommy Tune competition this year sponsored by Theatre Under the Stars.  The competition was entered by 44 schools in the Greater Houston area.  Tommy Tunes recognizes excellence of students and teachers in the nine-county metropolitan area.

Clear Falls High School was nominated for Best Choreography for their production of The Wizard of Oz.

Clear Springs High School’s production of Urinetown received 15 nominations. The nominations are as follows including Best Musical nomination for the third year in a row:

  • Best Featured Performer for Sterling Bates
  • Best Supporting Actress for Libby Hart
  • Best Supporting Actress for Hana Khan
  • Best Supporting Actor for Stephen Louis
  • Best Supporting Actor for Brandon Mayville
  • Best Actress for Emily Lewis
  • Best Actor for Nicholas Carlin
  • Best Ensemble/Chorus
  • Best Crew/Technical Execution
  • Best Lighting Design
  • Best Scenic Design
  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Musical Direction
  • Best Direction
  • Best Musical
The winners will be announced at the Tommy Tune Awards Ceremony Wednesday, April 16, at the Hobby Center in Houston. Congratulations to theatre and choir directors at Clear Springs High School, Mark Stonebarger, David Barker, Colette Currie, Kym Reeves, and Rob Phillips, and to their talented students. 

Congratulations also to the Clear Falls musical team Dianna Moore, Kurt Oian, Beth Yorlano, Jill Fetty, Jonny Cochran, Mary Lou Johnson and Blake Frere.

Since its inception in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards have grown to be the largest celebration of high school musical theater in Houston. The annual awards ceremony recognizes excellence of students and teachers throughout the nine county metropolitan area. After reviewing and evaluating the 44 participating Houston-area high school productions during the 2013-2014 school year, a team of 33 Houston-based theatre professionals made 151 nominations in 15 categories. An additional committee considered 51 potential scholarship recipients.
