TWO-WAY IMMERSION PROGRAM WILL EXPAND TO INTERMEDIATE CAMPUS
League City – In 2004, a group of students from around the Clear Creek Independent School District came together in one classroom at McWhirter Elementary. They formed the District’s first Two-Way Immersion class. Five years later the Estrellas Program has been so successful it is being expanded to Clear Creek Intermediate School in the fall of 2010.
Students from two language backgrounds are taught together in both English and Spanish creating academically high achieving children who are bilingual, biliterate and bicultural. TAKS passing rates for current Two-Way Immersion students are as follows:
-
Math 92%
-
Reading 92%
-
Writing 97%
The CCISD Board of Trustees approved the expansion of the program during the October 2009 board meeting. As a magnet program, Estrellas Intermediate will use the same model as Wave and Seabrook
