CCISD HONORS ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY TEACHERS OF THE YEAR
League City – During a luncheon on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Convention Center, CCISD and the Rotary Clubs of the Houston Bay Area announced the Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year. The Rotary Clubs of Space Center, Seabrook and League City awarded $1000 to the Clear Creek ISD Teacher of the Year for Elementary Education and $1000 to the Clear Creek ISD Teacher of the Year for Secondary Education.

The CCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Jennifer Foley is a 5th grade reading teacher at Hall Elementary. She recalls the number of students who join her class every year with absolutely no desire to read books and by the end of the year her class is one large book club. She accomplishes this by getting to know each child, their hobbies, and their heroes and then seeks books that are tailored to those interests. She tells a story of one student who on the very first day of class told her he hates to read. She went to Barnes and Noble and bought all sorts of books, until she got it right! By Christmas, he was reading with passion!

The Secondary Teacher of the Year is Nicola Clemmer of Creekside Intermediate. She joined CCISD in 2001. Her professional background isn’t your traditional tour through the education ranks. She started in the medical field and after having children she decided to plunge into education and believe me, our students are the benefactors of this decision. Nicola was one of those students that sat in the back of the room, hoping the teacher didn’t call on her, and frankly she didn’t think she was cut out for college until she enrolled in Chemistry as a high school student at Clear Lake High School. Her teacher, Mr. Hicks, greeted her at the door every day and made sure she had a seat at the front. She credits him for the teacher she is today. After 11 years at Creekside Intermediate, she still greets her students at the door and makes sure the ones in the back are engaged. Nicola is known for taking her students on wild science adventures including caving in the hill country and trolling for shrimp along the Galveston shore.
