CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS FOR LEAGUE CITY READING PROGRAM

Volunteers are needed for the “Leaders Make Readers” program, which seeks to pair local mentors with children at League City Elementary School, which includes one of CCISD’s largest populations of underserved students. The City of League City, CCISD and League City Chamber are partners in the program, with an initial goal of 50 volunteers.
The program was launched in February 2012. “This project gives all of us a chance to support our local students,” Mayor Tim Paulissen said, asking volunteers to visit the City’s website at www.leaguecity.com or
www.ccisd.net/leadersmakereaders to volunteer.
“We appreciate the City and Chamber for stepping up to join us in this important program,” assistant superintendent Hughes said. “Our children are our community’s most important resource, and providing them with positive role models while improving their reading skills is one of the greatest gifts we can give our young learners.”
CCISD is calling all volunteers to help grow strong leaders through this reading mentoring program at League City Elementary School. Leaders Make Readers is designed to give kids extra reading practice one-on-one with a caring mentor and to make the reading experience fun! Volunteers will help students develop responsibility, leadership, and communication skills while they serve their community and make a difference in children's lives.
