Nominees Sought For Outstanding Alumni Awards

The Clear Creek Education Foundation recently announced that it will be honoring several outstanding alumni of the Clear Creek Independent School District again this year at its

October 4, 2003 “Reach For The Stars” gala.  Nominations for the award are being requested from the community at large.  The Outstanding Alumni Awards, first given in 2001, were created to recognize Clear Creek ISD graduates who have excelled in their chosen profession and have made significant contributions to their respective communities.

Last year’s recipients included Susie Kelly Flatau, a noted writer and teacher from Austin, Texas (Clear Creek High School, Class of 1970); Susan H. Garman, the Associate Director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center (Clear Creek High School, Class of 1966); Jeremy Monthy, a Washington, D.C. attorney and his wife, Wendi Brown Monthy, Chief Resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (both Clear Brook High School, Class of 1991); and Joe Roach, Houston attorney and former Houston City Council member (Clear Lake High School, Class of 1979).

The Clear Creek Education Foundation is a non-profit entity organized in 1992 to support the Clear Creek Independent School District by recognizing and encouraging excellence in academic education.  Composed of business and community leaders, the board has raised funds to award scholarships to aspiring teachers, provide grants to teachers pursuing innovative projects, and help provide career exploration laboratories in the District’s intermediate schools.

Foundation board member and award selection committee chairman Harv Hartman noted that this award was created to both recognize outstanding alumni and to highlight the exceptional foundation the local school system is providing to prepare young people for lives of work and service.  “We certainly want to encourage people in the Clear Creek ISD area to help us find the best of our graduates to honor,” Hartman said.

A nomination form for the award may be obtained by contacting the Clear Creek ISD Community Partnership Office at 281-338-5899 or by picking up the form at the Education Support Center receptionist desk.  The Education Support Center is located at 2425 East Main Street, League City.  Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through May 30, 2003.  On June 2, 2003 the Education Support Center will begin summer hours, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  Nominations must be submitted no later than June 16, 2003 to be considered for this year’s award.
