Drug and Alcohol Student Survey Scheduled in CCISD

League City, TX – This spring, select students in Clear Creek ISD will be participating in the Texas Prevention Impact Index Survey (TPII) - a drug and alcohol survey customized for secondary students and measures risk and protective factors in relation to drug and alcohol use.

The survey addresses issues such as past 30-day use of alcohol and other drugs, how the use relates to academic achievement, parental and peer disapproval, who students turn to if they have questions about drugs and alcohol, and identifying ease of access.

The 2006 TPII data revealed that Clear Creek ISD secondary students are below the state average in categories such as 30-day tobacco and alcohol use, lifetime tobacco and alcohol use and parental approval of use.

The anonymous and voluntary survey provides many benefits to the district such as better educational planning on the awareness and dangers of drugs and alcohol. It also measures effectiveness of practices that are currently in place in the district. The Bay Area Alliance for Youth & Families has coordinated and administered the survey since its existence in Clear Creek ISD.

This year, the survey will be administered at select schools between Feb. 27 – March 9. It will be given to a random sample of 6th – 12th students in the district. For those classes selected to participate (approximately 30 percent of the student body), parental consent forms will be sent home with students the week of Feb. 5. Parents are required to sign and return the form only if they do not want their child to participate.

The survey schedule is as follows:

Clear Lake High School: Feb. 28

Clear Creek High School: March 1

Clear Brook High School: March 1

Clear View Education Center: March 5

Brookside Intermediate: March 1

Clear Lake Intermediate: Feb. 27

Creekside Intermediate: March 1

League City Intermediate: Feb. 28

Seabrook Intermediate: March 6

Space Center Intermediate: March 9

Victory Lakes Intermediate: Feb. 27

Westbrook Intermediate: March 1
