National Merit $2500 Scholarships winners were announced today by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors. These Scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

Clear Creek ISD is proud to have 5 winners from Clear Lake High School and Clear Horizons Early College High School:

The Bayer USA Foundation provides scholarships for children of employees as part of an ongoing effort by the company to support higher education in our society. Bayer produces a broad range of health care, crop protection, and polymer and chemical products that help diagnose and treat diseases, purify water, preserve local landmarks, protect crops, advance automobile safety and durability, and improve people's lives.

Honeywell International Inc.'s support of the National Merit Program is part of Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company's community outreach initiative, which focuses on three issues of vital importance: Family Safety and Security, Housing and Shelter, and Science and Math Education. Together with leading public and non-profit institutions, Honeywell has developed powerful programs to address these needs in the communities it serves. Honeywell also partners with NASA on the FMA Live science education program.

The Boeing Company supports Merit Scholarship awards annually for children of employees. The Merit Scholarship awards are a part of the Boeing Company's comprehensive aid to education program.

The six scholars listed above were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for Finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage.

Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study
and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
